Want to save money, but don’t know where to start? Right from the bills. Consult the ideas and tips below to save on bills, without sacrificing the comfort of your home!

DID YOU KNOW THAT … approx. 35% of a country’s energy and water consumption correspond to people, 20% to homes and 17% to cars?

The consumption of a house directly influences the bills and depends on many factors: the climate of the area, the orientation of the house, the quality of construction and insulation, the type of sanitary / thermal installations and equipment, the number of members of the house and their habits.

Let’s see what you can do to reduce the cost of bills while improving the quality of your home and life!

1. Take care of the insulation of the house

The biggest reason for heat loss in winter or coolness in summer. In translation, the main reason for higher bills than it should be.

In the case of a weak / medium insulated house, 20-25% of the energy comes out through the walls, while 5-10% comes out through the roof.

Some signs that warn you that your home is not well insulated:

  • excessively cold wall compared to the rest of the walls in the room;
  • the sensation of air current when you pass your palm next to the window frame;
  • drafts from the ceiling / wall (walks a lighted candle next to the walls, window, baseboards, ceiling, hatches and, if it oscillates, it means that there are drafts in the room).

Where other air currents can enter:

  • under the front door;
  • through the spaces where the sockets are mounted;
  • by the fireplace;
  • at the door that connects the terrace / garage and inside the house are the sockets.

Invest in the insulation of the house and, although it may seem like a big expense all of a sudden, you will be happy when you see the lower bills!

2. Check the condition of doors and windows

DID YOU KNOW THAT … 15% of heat loss / cooling is due to poorly insulated / damaged / old windows? Moreover, an extra insulation on the existing windows or their replacement with new, higher quality ones, reduces the heat / cooling losses by up to 50%!

Consider investing in quality PVC windows. Although it will be expensive, the amount will be amortized in just a few years due to lower bills after only 2 months of installing the new windows. Moreover, during all this time the comfort of the home will increase significantly!

If you want to know what features to look for when purchasing PVC windows or what type of windows you need, check out the window selection at our shop.

What else can you do:

  • insulates door / window seals with specially designed tapes and adhesives;
  • lower the shutters / blinds / blinds at nightfall;
  • use curtains / drapes with thermal protection (less heat is lost, less coolness is allowed to enter and vice versa).

3. Manages appliance consumption

If the appliance in your house, when it is turned off, remains on standby mode (red LED on, plug connection) then it still consumes energy, even if much less. According to specialized studies, stand-by appliances in a home generate an annual consumption of up to 300 kW.

Unplug them (and) when not in use for more than one day. You will save a few hundred good lei!

What else can you do:

  • connect AC to a thermostat or adjust it from the included remote control (temperature adjustment will turn on / off the device automatically, without consuming extra energy);
  • program the boiler to start / stop at the temperature you want;
  • schedule the boiler when you leave home for several days (this way you avoid the excess energy and keep a pleasant temperature in the house, beneficial for walls, plants, appliances, etc.);
  • turn off the AC / Central 10-15 minutes before leaving the house (the temperature will stay pleasant until you leave and consume less).

Consumption is also influenced by the overload of appliances:

  • setting AC at too low temperatures in summer (below 26 ° C) or too high in winter (above 22 ° C);
  • lack of specialized checks;
  • loading filters with dust, grease or dirt;
  • use of heating systems while cold air sources are open or cooling systems while hot air enters.

How do you know how energy efficient your home appliances are? Check the energy label pasted on them or on their packaging. Class A+++ is the highest / best standard, while class G is the most inefficient.

4. Keep the heat close

The closer you place the heat / hot water distribution source to the point where it is most needed, the less heat is lost from the pipes. 8 meters between the source and the point of use is the maximum of the ideal distance.

What else can you do:

  • put reflective panels behind the radiators to improve their performance (up to 20% of the emitted heat no longer comes out through the wall, but is “pushed” towards the room);
  • install the boiler as close as possible to the center of the house it is heating, so that the heat and hot water quickly reach the points of need, as well as the boiler compared to the bathroom or kitchen.

5. Think about what and when you warm up

The basic rule is this: heat to the right temperature, only when you need it!

Adjust the temperature according to how often you use the camera (keep in mind that 1 ° C less can mean up to 7% less energy consumed). E.g:

  • Living / Bedroom: 26 ° C in summer and 22 ° C in winter
  • Bath: 28 ° C in summer and 25 ° C in winter
  • Empty room: 30 ° C in summer and 15 ° C in winter

How can you adjust the temperature in each room? Either manually / mechanically by adjusting the radiator valves, or digitally / automatically by thermostat programming solutions (wireless or wired).

We hope you found the saving tips helpful. Implement them, step by step, and the results will turn into friendlier invoices!
